Prosthetics That Redefine Ability

Choosing the right bionic hand for you is an important part of building your upper-limb prosthetic. There are many factors that should be considered when selecting a prosthetic.

This includes taking into account the functions, aesthetics, and customisation options of the device. With the support of a clinician, here are just some of the things to be considered when choosing a bionic hand.

Suiting Your Needs

Your bionic hand should be able to support the tasks that you complete throughout the day. When choosing a bionic hand, be sure to speak with your clinician about the proficiencies of the hands you are considering and whether they fit with the activities you would be using it for.

The COVVI Hand has a number of unique features that support aspects of daily life. Including but not limited to:

  • Smart Fingertips: Switch between grips of your choice by pressing down on each finger of the COVVI Hand.
  • Touchscreen Compatibility: For use with tablets, smartphones, smartwatches, and other touchscreen devices.
  • Display Screen: The integrated E-paper screen provides real-time visual feedback without draining battery life, helping to reduce the learning curve for new users.
  • Fast Switching Between 24+ Grips: Change grips in as little as 0.4 seconds (in tripod grip).
  • Motorised Thumb Design: Powered and automatic rotation between opposition and non-opposition.
  • Auto Grip and Relax: Auto Relax automatically opens the hand to a natural resting position after a certain amount of inactivity, which can be set using the COVVI Go App. When Auto Grip is enabled, if the hand senses that an object is slipping, it reapplies a small continuous force to grasp the object, ensuring safe and risk-free object handling.
  • Protection from splashes: The COVVI Hand has been tested and certified with an IP44 rating, which ensures that the hand is protected against solids and water larger than 1mm, as well as sprays and splashes.

The Right Fit for You

Having a bionic hand that suits your body is an important part of ensuring that your hand is optimal for everyday use. A bionic hand should be proportional to the rest of your body type and reflect a balanced appearance.

COVVI’s bionic hand is available in small, medium and large sizes to accommodate the different types of people who use our hand.

Three, Unique Wrist Types

To ensure you can use your bionic hand as you see fit, there are also a number of wrist types that can be chosen from to accommodate your needs. COVVI’s bionic hand comes in three different wrist variants. Your clinician will be able to assess your limb and prescribe the most suitable wrist type for your needs.

Straight Wrist: An industry standard static wrist variation of the COVVI Hand, which benefits from a lighter overall weight and shorter form factor.

Friction Wrist: The shortest and lightest version of the COVVI Hand when installed on a prosthetic, which is ideal for people with a longer residual limb.

The Original Flex Wrist: The original COVVI wrist type offers 3 locking positions: 27° flexion, neutral, and 27° extension. In the unlocked state, the wrist functions as a freely flexing and extending wrist.

Cosmetic Customisation

Considering how you would like your bionic hand to look can also affect the type of prosthesis you choose. Whilst there are many different types of hands to suit different styles and functions, what’s most important is ensuring that it’s a design you feel comfortable and confident in when wearing.

The COVVI Hand is available in four striking colours: Carbon Black, White, Titan Grey, and Rose Gold.

And that’s it!

The COVVI Hand is one of the most adaptive bionic hands in the world, meaning that it can suit many different upper-limb differences. Looking to start your COVVI journey? Our dedicated team is ready to support you in getting started:

Please Note: The COVVI Hand is a complete limb absence solution, therefore your residual limb must end between your wrist and shoulder in order to be fitted with a prosthetic hand like ours. As it is also a myo-electric prosthetic device controlled by EMG sensors, patients must also be able to produce muscle signals to operate the hand, which means it isn't suitable for those who have lost the ability to move their arm from an injury, stroke or any other form of paralysis.
