Free Lock Prosthesis & Orthosis
Free Lock was created and developed by Stel Orthopedie BV in 1995 with the goal of creating a system that replaces the natural grip of the hand on a motorcycle or bicycle handlebar, for those with upper-limb differences and limited arm/hand mobility. Since then, the system has gone through a huge evolution, and every new version makes use of the latest insights and engineering advancements to create a robust device that uses cutting-edge materials to provide a safe solution for riding a bike or motorcycle.
The Free Lock System is a high-quality orthopaedic appliance which has achieved demonstrable, real-world results on both amateur and professional levels, including being used to win multiple Paralympic medals and world championships.
The highly stable and safe Free Lock gripping system can be connected to your prosthesis or orthosis and is backed by over 30 years of customer feedback and proven reliability from daily use.
Prosthesis Grip
This system can be attached to an existing socket in combination with a fixed or changeable wrist adapter. To optimise the range of motion, the FL-PG is fitted with a built-in wrist unit to limit its end range.
Supported by a polyurethane dampening block and a stainless steel limiter, the sideways range of motion can then be set and tuned to each user.
Orthosis Grip (Paediatric)
This device has been designed in such a way as to be fitted underneath the socket of a hand or arm orthosis.
As a fully mechanical system, the FL-OG can also be used by people affected neuromuscular weakness to the muscles or nerves in their arms. Due to being shorter, more compact and lighter, the FL-OG is an ideal solution for children with limb differences and muscle/nerve injuries.
Additional Components
In addition to the two main Free Lock systems, we are able to offer extra Hand Grips (HB-Grip-30) as a replacement for the one included with your Prosthesis or Prthosis Grip. It’s recommended to replace this component every few years as it’s susceptible to wear and tear.
There is also a specialised clamping designed to work with the Free Lock Hand Grip when riding a road racing bike (RB-Grip-30).
