Karina Receives Dream Prosthesis Following Fundraising Campaign

In 2023, Karina Gambini was working in a butcher’s shop when she had a workplace accident that changed her life, resulting in the partial loss of her right arm.
“I poured my heart and soul into getting back on my feet”, Karina said, “I never hid, I showed myself as I am, I learned to reinvent myself, to do everything with one hand. But everything changed when my physical therapists went to an orthopaedic exposition and met BM Medicine.”
Meeting BM Medicine, Karina’s physical therapists learnt about the types of prosthetic technology that aid in transforming lives all over the world. From then on, Karina began to research the world of advanced prosthetics, looking for something that could support her with daily tasks and activities. It wasn’t long before she found COVVI’s bionic hand, an advanced upper-limb prosthetic with over 24 grips to suit many different lifestyles. First checking that the COVVI Hand was available in Argentina, Karina reached out to her clinicians at BM Medicine and started her journey.
After a year of fundraising efforts on local television, radio stations, and through documenting her own journey on social media, it finally happened. This January, Karina travelled to Buenos Aires to have a mould fitting for her prosthetic, and only a week after that, she was finally fit with her COVVI Hand and custom-made prosthetic arm.
Karina is no stranger to talking about her experiences, speaking to members of the public across Argentina. Now, Karina is ready to share her life and prosthetic journey with the world – showcasing exactly what is possible.
Speaking with COVVI, Karina said: “BM Medicine Orthopaedics have been excellent, providing impeccable service and going beyond to offer genuine human warmth. They truly represent the COVVI brand. Regarding my prosthesis, I got the hang of it right away.”
“Hearing Karina’s story is the reason why we are so passionate about what we do here at COVVI.” CEO, Simon Pollard, commented, “I am so pleased that Karina has found her prosthetic easy to adapt to and is already achieving so much with it. We cannot wait to see her continue her journey.”
Exequiel Lo Gatto, CEO of BM Medicine said “Accompanying Karina on this journey, from the first consultation to seeing her use her bionic hand so naturally, has been moving for the entire team. Beyond the technical aspects, what drives us is the human factor and seeing how technology transforms into freedom. We are happy to be pioneers, bringing COVVI’s technology to the country, which marks a turning point for stories like hers.”
